DMC Ventures
When a DMC ventures into new territory for their clients, the results can be extraordinary! Some of our very best events have been developed from concepts that were “dreamed up” from scratch.
One of these very events won the granddaddy of our industry event awards for Best Event Produced for a Corporation or Association (Under $100,000 at the 2018 Special Event Gala Awards.
This corporate event, an awards ceremony, was created for the executives and general managers of a high-end international hotel management company. It was held at the ultra-chic W hotel in their dazzling top-floor event space, Altitude, overlooking downtown Dallas. The event was created to celebrate the guests and their success in a memorable way.
We were initially contacted by our hotel partner because their client was requesting event services far beyond their in-house scope. Our client had never worked with a destination management company before, and she was thrilled to receive our guidance putting together an event of this magnitude. From our first call, the client left us with one directive, “dream outside the box.” So we, quite literally, began dreaming…
Within days of the call, our creative design manager had a dream about the sensation of swimming in an abstract koi pond and shared it with the client. She was all over it. We had found our theme! The client still wanted some traditional awards elements to be incorporated such as a red carpet and stars on the floor with guest’s name on them, but we found unique ways of blending this into the overall design.
With less than 3 weeks from concept to completion, our team had to move quickly. The abstract koi pond event became a priority for our creative design team and our decorator immediately. With the condensed timeline and the level of customization needed, every step needed to be planned and executed in short order.
Our team had numerous face to face meetings with our decorator to brainstorm designs, create sketches/renderings for the custom pieces, and to tweak and re-tweak. The time investment was a huge challenge since we had very little of it. The design and entertainment elements began coming together, the client signed off on our proposal, and the event was contracted within the week.
Our goal was to have guests feel as if they had walked into a Hollywood awards ceremony as soon as they stepped off the elevator. From the start, this feeling was achieved by a fifty-foot living red carpet, the personalized walk of fame (complete with each employee’s name and the company logo), and a dazzling view of the Dallas skyline from dusk to dark.
The abstract koi pond theme was truly something the guests had never seen before. So much of the décor was custom built for this event including the rotating Japanese lanterns, koi fish graphics on chair backs, and arranged branches and lily pads on display through the whole of the space. Our lanterns hung inside of clear, enclosed highboys. We had engineered them to rotate and created a memorable piece. These DMC ventures were unique and elevated the event to a new level.
This celebration was a surreal journey filled with subtle Asian accents, custom décor pieces, and splashes of color throughout. From start to finish, the experience exceeded our client’s wildest dreams, and guests were completely captivated. Our DMC ventured into unchartered territory to create this dream of an event!
